Rin, Shibuya

A friend took us here. I think Rin is known for this sashimi plate with dry ice.

Gimmicky yes, but still pretty cool (no pun intended). Aside from the dry ice, it tasted normal.

I’m not used to using raw egg yolk as a dip. It was ok.

I liked this agedashi tofu.

I liked the other fried foods too. Japanese frying quality easily exceeds American frying.

Tanto, Sunnyvale

A local favorite.  Everything I’ve tried I would get again!  I recommend making reservations with a group so that you can try most dishes.

From the street, Tanto looks rather unassuming.20160213Tanto1

Always tempted to get the sashimi salad.  Generous amounts of sashimi, with just the right amount of dressing and greens.  This is probably as healthy as my cravings will ever get.20160213Tanto2

Kani Gratin.  Cheesey crab goodness.20160213Tanto3

Kani Korokke.  Crab croquettes.  Couldn’t help from eating some before I took a photo.20160213Tanto4

Tempura Moriawase.  Assorted tempura; a classic.20160213Tanto5

Yaki Onigiri.  Fried rice balls with roe; this keeps me coming back!  At first I would share an order.  I no longer share.  (=20160213Tanto620160213Tanto7

Sashimi Moriawase 6 kinds.  Also a classic.20160213Tanto8

Garlic Steak.  Comes raw in a sizzling hot iron bowl, and finishes cooking as you stir it.  This was way better than expected, and tasted even better the next day!  Shortly after receiving this, I saw four similar orders arrive nearby; once you see and smell it you’ll know why.  #infuencer.20160213Tanto9
